Your Guide to the Weekend Episode 021 - mixed by Dante GBRL

New weekend, new mix from BPB! Your Guide to the Weekend has reached its 21st episode, which is not a massive feature considering my laziness but I'm still proud to present you this newest installation.

While I'm planning some huges moves in December and January, this episode perfectly sums up my dance music philosophy with hard-hitting basslines, sexy synths and ass-moving percussions. Kicking it off with Kele Okereke's massive remix for MR MS, including Shadow Child's huge hit from 2012 through some pretty cool new tracks and remixes from Amine Edge & Dance, Route 94, James Welsh and Tchami.

I hope you will enjoy it, as usual: listen, download, share and show some love!

Autograf's freebies

It is pretty evident that the number of up-and-coming nudisco/indie dance/deep house/future bass producers in the US is "too damn high". I'm considering this as a positive fact, so please let me introduce Autograf (in case you havent' heard about them so far).

Coming from the Forever on Vacation blog, these guys certainly know how to make sexy, chilled deep house and nudisco tunes and as an insanely cool move, release them for free.

I didn't hesitate a second to decide whether to post these beauties or not: a Marvin Gaye remix, an Amtrac remix with a free original track on top. Enjoy and show some love!

The Daily Deep: Le Visiteur - Le Cinquiéme

Today's daily deep mix comes from the British nudisco and deep house master Le Visiteur who recently sent me his latest mixtape.

Kicking off the 1-hour journey with some magical nudisco tracks, before reaching the depths of deeper and darker house tracks, Le Visiteur clearly shows why he is signed to Mighty Mouse's label and DJing alongside with household names such as Hot Since 82 or Lindstrom.

Enjoy the ride!

Mary Popkids - Nightdrive remixes

High flying indie pop band Mary Popkids recently released their single "Nightdrive" along with an epic video, and now the guys came up with the idea to release a remix EP of the track with electronic music remixes, courtesy of their friends and collaborators. Let's see!

You can find an electronica rework by We Plants are Happy Plants, a glitchier approach by iamyank, the usually massive bass-filled Drop The Cheese remix, a deeper version by Jabocca, the dub remix of DJ Slow and the usually unusual remix of Tropiic.

What is way too cool as well that the first 100 snatchers get free downloads of the remixes, so you better hurry up!

Richy Ahmed - The Drums EP

In the midst of the increasingly popular house music hurricane comes a fresh two track EP from one of the movement’s most promising talents, Richy Ahmed. Taking cues from hip-hop, techno, funk and disco, The Drums EP arrives on the 2nd of December via Hot Creations.

Just stretching his limbs in terms of his discography, in less than two years the London-based producer has gathered some series attention. From 2011’s slinky, deep house mover „Suck It” (also on Hot Creations) to his 80's chicago manipulation remix of Infinity Ink's „Infinity”, there’s always an enviable glisten about his work. His wizardry behind the decks lead to him being named resident DJ at DC10's Paradise this summer with the season coming to an end in late September.

„The Drums” got its maiden plays during Richy's Boiler Room Set and the takeovers of Paradise Ibiza. The EP steps out of the blocks with definite verve. Title track, „The Drums”, a hip-house barnstormer of a track it massages a buttery-smooth rolling bassline into a four-to-the-floor backdrop with contagious results. Legend, Kevin Knapp, jumps on vocal duty dropping in and out with praise to 'the drums'. On the flip side, „101 Jam” is a rolling analogue slice of deep house brilliance. Here, Richy pitches skittering hi-hats and hyperactive synth movements atop a robust bassline foundation. It proves homage to the brand of house celebrated right from the genre’s genesis.

Jägerverb - Septimus EP

Let's kickoff this cold November Monday with a superb preview from Lektroluv, the leading Belgian future techno imprint - courtesy of Jägerverb.

After the banging Phosphenes and Titan EP’s, Jägerverb is now back on Lektroluv to present for your aural pleasure the trio of sonic delights that is the Septimus EP.

Conceived at a carnival in central São Paulo, Jägerverb was exposed to the infectious grooves of rhythm and melody from the earliest stages of his foetal development. However, the child was not born on Brazilian soil. Instead, Jägerverb entered into the isolated civilisation of an unchartered island some distance from the North-West coast of France. Jägerverb soon became disillusioned by his company and surroundings after hearing rumours that the locals frequented bars and clubs offering exclusively commercial dance and drum and bass. But, by some fortunate coincidence, he became acquainted with a band of rebels dedicated to the distribution of house and techno .mp3's illegally imported from overseas. Jägerverb was educated by the rebels on the rich abundance of music available beyond the island’s shores. He was taught of bizarre foreign instruments known as ‘computers’ and ‘synthesisers’, the operation of which would allow him to mimic the musical grooves he so adored. And so Jägerverb plotted his mission to escape the entrapment of the island. Armed with a laptop and a bottle of elk blood infused liqueur, Jägerverb set to work creating grooves of his own.

„Brocken Spectre” was already road tested by Daniel Avery in his Boiler Room TV mix. Do not sleep on this.

Release date is set for 9th December.

Jägerverb - Septimus EP
Tracklist:
01. Jägerverb - Broken Spectre
02. Jägerverb - Septimus
03. Jägerverb - Tilde

Solution - Feels so Right remixes coming on Toolroom

A timeless classic that has been sampled, referenced and aspired to since its inception, Toolroom Records now presents a fresh new remix package of Solution’s unforgettable „Feels So Right” from some of today’s most exciting producers, Friend Within, Lars Vegas, Joe T. Vannelli and WhiteNoize.

One of New York’s finest and most prolific DJs, Victor Simonelli was one of the early pioneers of the unique NYC underground dance music movement that is now religiously followed by the clubbing faithful the world over. Having already been involved in many high profile projects, it was his release of „Feels So Right”, under the guise of Solution, that cemented Simonelli’s status among the house elite.

UK man of the moment, Friend Within, delivers a fresh, deep & rolling update of the original, already receiving strong support with its first airing from Annie Mac (BBC Radio 1) and Shadow Child (Rinse FM); a sure fire underground hit if ever there was one.

With a strong reputation for solid house grooves, Dutchman Lars Vegas digs out the old school synths to deliver an energetic and cleverly pitched take on „Feels So Right”; this mix is infectious and will be heavily playlisted across many genres of DJ.

Next up, renowned Italian producer and DJ, Joe T. Vannelli’s ‘Diva’ Remix takes no prisoners; it’s a heavy, techy, peak time onslaught taking the original to totally new and diverse territory.

Following a string of successful remixes and releases, America’s finest disco house duo WhiteNoize deliver an up to date take on ‘Feels So Right’. Keeping the soul and ethos of the original, their remix is a tribute to their style, keeping it accessible to all.
A stunning set of remixes to compliment a true house classic.

Mia Dora - You in the Future EP

Hot off the back of a single on Moda Black, and a remix of Romanthony on Glasgow Underground. British duo Mia Dora, drop „You In The Future” via Kerri Chandler’s MadTech imprint this November.

Brit duo Mia Dora, have been making quite the names for themselves since stepping onto the scene in 2010, earning their initial wave of support off the back of remixing Roots Manuva’s, „Get To Get” for Big Dada, which was picked up by Radio 1 aficionado’s Giles Peterson, Mary Anne Hobbs and Rob Da Bank, a striking indication of the pairs undeniable talent. Fast forward two years and the duo have been snapped up for Jaymo & Andy George’s Moda imprint, and have firmed up their name as one of the hottest acts of 2013 having been enlisted to rework Romanthony, Walker & Royce and Grum.

Title track „You In The Future” kicks things off, seeing the duo embrace a rawer, more upfront focus in comparison to previous singles. Smoothly shuffled drums lead the way, while cosseting Rhodes, a bumpy, sub-driven bass-line and a classic organ hook build the melodic movement. Things intricately evolve throughout the tracks seven-minute duration, with baroque changes in the structure, and additional elements such as a hypnotic acid line, keeping things intriguing and evolving dynamically as the record blooms.

Following is „After The Dog”, the duo again opt for a rough and rugged feel with the drums, while an insistent rounded sub bass drives the groove, and consistently varied classic chord stabs fuel its energy levels. Drawn out reversed sweeps then build tension alongside sporadic percussive rolls, to create a profound impact when reverting back to the sturdy foundations. To close the release Mia Dora offer up an ‘Extended Edit’ of ‘You In The Future’, doing exactly as it says on the tin and drawing out the infectious groove for extended mixing pleasure.

Release date is set for 25 November 2013.

Fridge Festival 2013 Spotlight

This Thursday marks the start of this year's Fridge Festival in Budapest, which returns after a two year long hiatus. Considered as a paradise for both winter extreme sports and electronic music lovers, I'm pretty sure that this one will cause a stir during the weekend in BP. Having hosted acts like Nero, Steve Aoki, Pendulum and many more during its previous editions, this year's Fridge Festival is aiming to return to the premier league of winter music festivals as well.

It would be quite a task to preview the whole lineup, so I've decided to make it a bit easier, by posting 5 livesets from 5 of the most awaited acts relating to the electronic music lineup of the festival. So, let's kick it off, here are the 5 acts that you must see if you're going to Fridge!

For all infos on the venue and the tickets, just check out the official website or the Facebook event of the festival.

ANDRO
(11-22, Friday, Party Arena, 23:30 CET)
I don't think that I have to introduce one of the best known DJs of Hungary to anyone, here's a regular at all of the biggest festivals in the country, while touring around in the meantime as well and producing sick electro and EDM tracks as 1/2 of Nobody Moves.

CROOKERS
(11-22, Friday, Party Arena, 01:00 CET)
Right after Andro, the now one-man show Crookers will take the stage to test you with bass-filled music all over the place. Right after the release of "Ghetto Guetta" on Skrillex's OWSLA label, it's going to be a massive for sure with Phra's eclectic and heavy sounds.

PAUL KALKBRENNER
(11-23, Saturday, Main Stage, 01:00 CET)
Being one of the (or THE) most popular electronic music acts in Hungary, Paul Kalkbrenner will take his place on the main stage as the headliner of the Saturday lineup. Having released dozens of successful quality tracks, I'm really looking forward to a set that will be trippy, pulsating and full of Paul's own productions. Just like he did at Sonar in Barcelona.

JAY LUMEN
(11-23, Saturday, Party Arena, 22:00 CET)
Consistent as ever, Jay Lumen just keeps pumping out tons of quality productions with releases on 100% Pure, Suara and Tronic alone in this year. He will kick off Saturday's festivities in the arena.

JAMES ZABIELA
(11-23, Saturday, Party Arena, 02:30 CET)
The super-talented mixmaster from Britain will take over the Party Arena on Saturday with his soundstorm full of special effects. Can't miss!

PREVIEW: B-Ju - Ass Club EP

Wet dreams anybody?

With „Ass Club” B-Ju created a sweaty, erotic, jackin' piece of house music that makes you move sexier in the club. The track increases your sex appeal instantly. It's been proven. It’s a keeper for sure. „Stringer Bell” is ass good ass. A bit more on the deeper side but relentlessly rolling you may call it the hidden jam on here, but don't, cause then it's not hidden anymore. „The Back” breaks things down, neither trap nor house nor ghetto shit. Just some unique B-Ju.

Ass for remixes. Worthy (Anabatic) treats „Ass Club” into a party smasher, a floor slasher or simply an ass bomb adding bass and mile long breakdowns. Mark Starr (Dirtybird) exhales pure groove after eating the stems. This remix makes me wanna go pop locking again. Well at least I gotta take a break cause this is ...sorry for the pun again...”Ass good ass it gets”.

Release date is set for 22 November 2013.

The BPB Selection: Week 47 of 2013

It's Monday, so the BPB Selection is back again: let's call it a mini-chart, these are my top five tunes from the last week. Check them out!

#5. Oliver - MYB (Tchami remix)
Paris-based Tchami is quite a new name to the business, but he's also rising fast: this great bassline-driven remix of Oliver's monstrous MYB is just the beginning, watch out for him!

#4. Mella Dee - Things Don't Change (James Welsh remix)
Yet another astonishing remix from James Welsh: 100% UK sound, great peak-time track!

#3. Azari & III - The Worker
The news of their split up is making this track even bigger, while it really reminds me an old classic from Nick Warren's Amsterdam mix on Global Underground. Pure class!

#2. Laura Mvula - Sing to the Moon (Klangkarussell remix)
Deep, melancholic and haunting. Perfect reinterpretation from Klangkarussell for those dark November days.

#1. Two Door Cinema Club - Changing of the Seasons (Francesco Rossi remix)
And this week's winner is none else than this superb airy rework of the latest Two Door Cinema Club single. Francesco Rossi is slowly but surely becoming a household name in house music.

Deaf DJs - November Mix 2013

Quite a nice way to start your week on a soaky grey November Monday: Budapest-based nudisco magicians, the Deaf DJs have showcased their November promo mix today. Fresh off from their gig in Kolor a week ago, the guys are back in business.

The duo provide its usual deep, yet sexy and danceable sound in this mix as well, with lots of unknown gems (or at least for me), but you can make some guesses based upon their regular Facebook posts.

I hope you like the mix, and if so, please show some love to the duo!

Michael Jackson - Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' (Louis La Roche remix)

I always loved when all time classics got revamped in a quality way by quality producers, so I've got a really easy task here to introduce Louis La Roche's brand new treatment to Michael Jackson's "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'"!

The British funk maestro used the original 1982 recording, kept its main parts while also added some of his trademark sounds and created a version that both fits the needs of clubgoers in 2013 and the ones who love the original track as well.

Not so easy to perform but Louis totally nailed it, so I wouldn't be surprised if this one get the airplay it deserves.

Oh, and just to make sure the total coolness of what we have here: it is absolutely free, so grab it as fast as you can!

PREVIEW: Jamie Jones - Planets Spaceships EP

Jamie Jones launched the Hot Creations label back in 2010 with the phenomenal „Ruckus”. Now Jamie makes his long awaited return to Hot Creations with „Planets, Spaceships”, a four-track EP set for vinyl release on 18th November 2013.

These tracks have been Jamie's secret battle weapons all summer (including that legendary Boiler Room Ibiza villa takeover set). Tapping into a dark sider but with that distinctive Jamie Jones melody and drive that are a signature feature of his DJ sets. Title track „Planets, Spaceships” features vocalist Daniela Caldellas from Digitaria, who has an album planned for Hot Creations in the new year, whilst „Cookie Monster”, „Starp Trek” and „Stick” take things even deeper with vocal snatches and crisp claps.

Highlighting his avant-garde style and showcasing exactly why he is recognised as one of the leading figures in the rebirth of house music, „Planets, Spaceships” further cements Jamie's place in the dance music hall of fame.

The Daily Deep: Goldroom - Otono Mix 2013

As a part of the new daily tradition, called The Daily Deep, I present you the newest promo mix of Los Angeles based Goldroom, focusing on the current season: the autumn.

"The sun is setting an hour earlier and chilly evenings spent in front of the fire are replacing afternoon barbecues and poolside adventures. The windows can stay down in the car but the heat stays blasting to fight the first gripping tendrils of winter. The fall is beautiful though, and it has always been a time for introspection and looking to the past and future. I've been thinking a lot about everything that's happening and I sort of think that this mix of songs reflects that. Melancholy and nostalgia aren't unfamiliar partners to ride with, but they sure feel good to cuddle up with when its cold outside and you're lying in bed with your headphones on thinking about somewhere a little warmer.

I really want to thank all of the artists that made the music included in the mix. I fall in love with this shit every single day and hopefully this can lead some people your way. See below for the full tracklist including time signatures, and then go check out their music!"

PREVIEW: Moya - Making Me Fall (remixes)

The brand new deep house and nudisco label Hedonism Music already saw two monstrous releases so far with notable remixes for Imany and Ben Pearce and we didn't wait too long for the third installment. Here are the first previews!

Moya grew up on her mother’s music collection, a combination of Motown, soul, jazz and disco: “All the big Motown and soul artists have played a big part in moulding me into the singer I am today,” says Moya.

Now being a rising star, who already had radio support on BBC Radio 1 on her singles, while things are starting to spread internationally with national radio in Italy. Moya has also been touring hard in the last months across the UK & Europe, playing arena shows with 4 nights opening the new Hydro arena in Glasgow, where „Making Me Fall” was the highlight.

The remixes collection coming from Hedonism Music ain’t a lightweight one. First up, Belgian nudisco superstar Kolombo delivers his trademark sound with a vocal and a dub version, then Andre Crom teams up with Chi Thanh for a delightful remix, as Stu Patrics’ version being an intriguing one as well.

Release date is set for 29 November 2013.

RELEASE: Filthy Rich - Hustle EP

Bow down to the newest release on Off Recordings' sister label Off Spin, courtesy of Richard Wakley aka Filthy Rich!

Rich has proven to have a special talent when it comes to making people dance. With releases on imprints like Hot Waves, Defected and Toolroom, he has been a steady provider of groovy beats.

Off Recordings is honoured to present this new EP with 3 outstanding dancefloor tracks ready to rock any discerning crowd, precisely "Rock The Disco" is the title of the first offering in this pack, a bubbly-bass jacker with a quirky vibe and classic house elements, followed by "I Won’t Let You", another groover with a driving synth riff, great vocal work and an intense breakdown. "Hustle Up" closes this EP with style, with a heavy bass-synth driven track that keeps the tension high throughout the whole song in peaktime frenzy.

This is one special release designed to make the clubs go crazy, go grab it now!

Deadmau5 reveals new 7-track EP

Joel Zimmermann aka Deadmau5 has been hinting a lot lately about his EPs having an own storyline. In order to justify his words, today he uploaded excerpts of 7 tracks which will ultimately form a 7-track EP, dedicated to the seven deadly sins - according to their Latin titles. However, the exact storyline is up to your imagination, the concept is quite clear.

While delivering the usual melodic progressive stuff with some haunting soundscapes, I'm really hoping that the full versions will see the daylight really soon on Joel's own label, Mau5trap.

Since there's no exact release date so far, enjoy the previews!

The BPB Selection: Week 46 of 2013

I'm also going to resurrect a regular segment of Budapest Bonkers: the weekly BPB selection which is a kind of a mini chart of mine. Five songs for each week (including as many genres as possible) which totally stuck on my mind during the last seven days. There will be new ones, there will be older ones, exclusives and absolutely well-known tracks as well. Here we go for this week!

#5. Zagar - Space Medusa (KuriousS remix)
Of course I will start out with a massive Hungarian track! Zagar's newest single "Space Medusa" is a superb tune on its own, but I have to go with one of the remixes. It was quite hard to select one, but KuriousS's rework totally stands out for me from the package. Great work!

#4. FMLYBND - Come Alive
The California-based indietronica band is already labeled as "The next MGMT/Empire of the Sun/Passion Pit". We'll see that, their newest (and free) EP is great, with "Come Alive" being my favorite track.

#3. Katy B - 5 AM (Leftwing & Kody remix)
Katy B's newest single was produced by George Fitzgerald which already means quality, but it comes with two magnificient remixes from Route 94 and Leftwing & Kody - for me, the latter one is a lock to stay on repeat.

#2. Two Door Cinema Club - Changing of the Seasons (Monsieur Adi remix)
I've stuck on the Irish guys' newest track (which was produced by Madeon by the way) last week, and since the Francesco Rossi remix already got huge publicity, I have to go with Monsieur Adi's more vocal orientated rework.

#1. Booka Shade - Love Inc.
I consider the first single from the Booka Shade album "Eve" as one of the biggest tracks of the year. Melodic. Emotional. Stunning.

PREVIEW: Bluebook - Love Prisoner EP

A landmark 40th release from Love Not Money Records welcomes the eclectic sounds of "Love Prisoner" by Bluebook; a trio from the South East of the UK specialising in bass and electronic driven dance music with a variety of influences including drum & bass, downtempo, bass house and experimental ambient. Backed up with an array of remixes from a whole host of exciting producers.

Remixes include a hard hitting late-night affair from DeMarzo who's had success lately on Hot Creations. Eagles & Butterflies who's recent work has seen him in the studio with Felix Da Housecat and music featured on Jon Digweed's Bedrock Records compilations takes a rolling tech house approach. Northern artist Andy Lee turns out a deep house weapon sure to be a hit with the masses and completing the release is a stunning remix from American artist Brett, one of the pioneers of the electronica genre, chill wave.

All in all a sterling release that reaches out to a multitude of music fans right across the board.

Release date is set for 11 November 2013.
